Herman, Nebraska men busted for meth labTwo Herman, Nebraska men were arrested this weekend for running what sheriff officials called a clandestine methamphetamine lab from their home.
At about 11:15 p.m. Friday, the Washington County Special Response Team executed a search warrant and entered a residence at 207 E. 6th St. in Herman, Nebraska where a suspected methamphetamine lab was located. The home is located near an anhydrous dealer — one of the precursor chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Robert J. Kadrmas, 46, of Herman, Nebraska was arrested at the scene without incident. His alleged partner was not at the residence when police entered.
The tactical team was deployed to serve the search warrant because one of two men suspected of manufacturing the methamphetamine had fought with deputies using a handgun on a previous arrest.
"About five years ago, we executed a search warrant and Kadrmas was armed with a handgun," said Chief Deputy Ben Scherer of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. "He briefly fought with us at the time, so we used the SRT this time."
There was not a long investigation by the Washington County, Nebraska Sheriff's Office, III CORPS Drug Task Force, Blair Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol.
"We received information Wednesday that there was a working meth lab at the residence," said Washington County, Nebraska Sheriff Mike Robinson. "The information we had was that there was already one quick flash fire at the residence."
Nebraska Law enforcement officers watched the home for two days.
"There was a lot of traffic coming in and out of the residence," Scherer said. "This came up very fast."
When law enforcement officers entered the residence, they found materials from a methamphetamine lab that had just been used.
"They had just manufactured some meth on Thursday, the 4th," Robinson said. "All of the precursor (materials) were still there — they could have made more at any time. There was some (already manufactured methamphetamine) found in the residence — it was ready to go."
The Metro Omaha Clan Lab Team cleaned up the chemicals in the house in about three hours, Scherer said.
Sunday, Mark J. Hansen was arrested at his parents' house south of Herman, Nebraska without incident. He is believed to be Kadrmas' partner in the manufacturing.
Robinson said a 5-year-old boy lived at the original residence, but was found with Hansen at his parents' home. The boy now is with other family members.
Kadrmas was charged with felony manufacturing of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction.
Hansen was charged with felony manufacture of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction.
Robinson said Hansen has a prior record of arrests for possession of controlled substances and recently was released from the Nebraska State Penitentiary after serving a sentence for possession of methamphetamine.
As of press time, Kadrmas and Hansen remain in the Washington County, Nebraska jail in lieu of 10 percent of a $25,000 bond each. No future court dates have been set.
Robinson said the case is considered closed, but it is possible other charges could be pending. Drug Rehab by County
