Nebraska drug raids lead to arrestsIn two simultaneous raids Wednesday, the III CORPS Drug Task Force arrested four Fremont residents in connection with possessing and selling various controlled substances.
Nearly 150 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine, in addition to other narcotics, were found at the two homes.
The Fremont, Nebraska Police Department's tactical team was used to enter a home in the 200 block of S. Clarmar Ave. at about 7:05 a.m.
"At the Clarmar address, we used the entry team because we knew there were guns in the house," said Nebraska Deputy Police Chief Steve Tellatin.
Nebraska police found more than 130 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine in the home of David W. Barnes, 48, and Wendy S. Barnes, 46. Drug paraphernalia, prescription opiate narcotics and more than $1,600 in cash also were seized.
The couple was taken into custody without incident.
At the same time tactical Nebraska officers were entering the Clarmar address, detectives served a search warrant in the 300 block of W. Sixth Street.
Nebraska Task force members found more than 16 grams of cocaine and methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, prescription opiate narcotics and drug paraphernalia. David J. Barnes, 20, and Jackie M. Barnes, 20, also were arrested without incident.
Tellatin said there were no known weapons in the residence so the tactical unit was not used. He said the father, son and their wives were working together to deal drugs.
"All of the individuals were related and they were all involved in the crimes together," Tellatin said.
A toddler was present at the Sixth Street address and was taken into protective custody by Nebraska Health and Human Services agents.
"The substances were found in the child's room — the child would have had access to them," Tellatin said. "The substances were on a small table in the room — it was all in plain view."
The five-week investigation by III-CORPS Drug Task Force officers began in October. Officers from the Fremont, Nebraska Police Department, deputies from the Dodge County, Nebraska Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol troopers and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agents assisted in the warrant service and arrests.
"The investigation of another case led to this case," Tellatin said. "One thing led to another and culminated into successful arrests. It was a real quick investigation."
He said "controlled buys" were utilized in the investigation.
David J. Barnes was charged with felony exposing a child to methamphetamine, felony possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, felony delivery of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and felony possession of a controlled substance. He also was charged with the infractions of possession of marijuana-less than an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jackie M. Barnes was charged with felony exposing a child to methamphetamine and felony possession of a controlled substance. She also was charged with the infraction of possession of drug paraphernalia.
David W. Barnes was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance-cocaine, felony possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, three counts of felony delivery of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, and felony possession with the intent to deliver-methamphetamine. He also was charged with the infraction of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Wendy S. Barnes was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and felony possession of controlled substances-prescription drugs.
"There is the possibility if the thresholds are met for federal prosecution, it will be requested through the U.S. Attorney's Office," Tellatin said.
All four Barnes family members remain in the Dodge County, Nebraska Jail as of press time. Bond has been set at $500,000 straight cash for David J. and Jackie Barnes. Bond has yet to be set for David W. and Wendy Barnes.
